Kitchenette
Often used to refer both to a small kitchen or a kitchen cabinet which has cupboards, shelves and work surface all together. These days it appears to cover a small cooking area with fridge and microwave and possibly a little more.
In the case of this 1930s – 50s attempt we have a small kitchen – gone is the living room kitchen arrangement but what is left is a small cooking area and a dining room and sitting room. We have a kitchenette with, on the left, a kitchenette in it (bright yellow and white piece of furniture at the front).
Wiring run

More a store cupboard than a larder
I suppose, built as a loose item in the back right corner
-
-
Balancing precariously and removed from its home
-
-
the major part with the shelves and the lights will eventually (hopefully) still be able to move forward a little
-
-
and very, very hopefully, the top bit should come out altogether
-
-
because the wiring all runs out down that shaft and through the slot down on the right at floor level
-
-
Starting to stock it up further and now lit. Awaiting a box of goodies to go on a lower shelf and for that jar of raspberry jam to be put straight
Somebody has been busy?
This kitchen is a bit of a Marie Celeste. Lots has been going on but no one is around.

-
Boojars potatoes and peelings on newspaper – I’ve taken the liberty of adding three carrots for a little colour on that side of the room
-
-
Some one is warming good china – not so sure about that but the colours are good
-
-
Kettle on the stove and small (1:24) pan/casserole on the back light. Shelves above have the other pans and the colander is now in the sink so the veg can be washed
-
-
On the other side of the kitchen is the kitchenette cupboard with lunch-time sandwich makings. The larger slanting cupboard comes from Elf Miniatures and the smaller one is something I chopped up and halved, the front half is over the fridge.

-
A closer look at lunch. The cheese and tomato slices come from sashasstore as did those carrots
-
-
and there’s a large chip butty on the table, though someone’s gone off in a hurry leaving their floral pinny on the back of the chair
If you look very carefully at the yellow cupboards on the left, there are two old Bero recipe books sitting on the shelf.
Views all round

From the front door through to the kitchen
-
-
and from the kitchen to the front door
-
-
Through the dining room open door into the open kitchen
-
-
and through the dining room hatch too – though someone’s turned off the lights!
Still an airer to go in here
-
-
Have chickened out of putting it up before ceiling and now regretting it but will ‘go to it’ next time

Oh, and I forgot to mention the mouse trap under the front edge of the cooker.
Conclusions before explanation.
Or is that excuses after descriptions?
Lopsided as ever and whichever decorator the inhabitants had in to do the border must not be asked to do a border again. Partially due to sloppiness and a lot more to do with small space and inability to tip head to one side and back again for more than a short time, (benign positional vertigo) though I did spread it all out over a week and a bits worth of sortings and stickings. Self inflicted scrappiness …
Overall, as long as you can put up with wonky then it probably gives the feeling I’m after 🙂

Meanwhile
The two parts of the naked woman lamp are drying out nicely and still seem to fit together.
The kitchen is looking lovely, your pictures make it look very realistic.
🙂 many thanks
Looking amazing! 😉
Many thanks that’s v kind, but it doesn’t it look horribly lopsided despite the use of spirit levels too 🙂
I’m not the one to ask. Can’t hang anything straight to save my life. Drives my husband crazy…
I love all the little details, like the recipe books.
They’re my favourite. I remember the one we had in the 50s
