I’ve never been any good at flower arrangements, mostly because I fiddle too much, ending with a stressed-looking vase full of bruised nature. Building this corner tree is a bit like that.
So far it’s a bundle of uptight twigs wrapped in florists’ tape, wrapped in plastic artificial ivy and bits of dried plant but the moment has come for it to be affixed against the wall between the front door and the arch or be jettisoned forever.

I find there’s a tendancy towards lollipop trees when scaled down, at least if I’ve had my hands on them. Firstly, this tree base needs widening for a bit more stability and balance then the branch structure/tree skeleton could be more visible instead of looking like something escaped from the swamps of a bayou.
The indignity of a clamped tree

Widened the lower tree bowl & immediately glued it all in place

Decision made I unclamped it and added climbing hydrangea

Re clamped and now dry with wider base

from saved bark wrapped around and twigs for ‘older growth’

Looking upwards still a bundle of twigs?

Perhaps looking a little more at home in its remaining spread
The bark pieces were shed from trees and bushes and picked up on walks. The one used is a bit bright and smooth but has given the tree a fairly sturdy base.
The bright ends of the cut twigs have now been darkened and I’m trying to stop myself from fiddling any further – much.
Got another climbing hydrangea kit to add (from The Miniature Garden site) so that should keep me quiet for a wee while.
