Have taken the decision to do each ceiling separately, constantly leveling off each room with the whole building.

Chosen to work on individual rooms to try to ensure a full seal all round for each, thereby excluding light leakage at the edges.  Am levelling off each area and making sure it’s still level with the whole house, and using wood strip cornices round the rooms to support a 2 mm greyboard ceiling. My very bad mitring will get wood filled and touched up.  I’m papering each with the same off-white lining paper and will put wooden slats on the outer (roof side) surface of the card to help prevent warping.

One room glued and light newly hung – just testing it here with a battery so hopefully, not only will it have time for the wiring to straighten out by the time it gets plugged into the mains, but the actually lighting will be just a little brighter.  Next job take the fine bristle brush round and remove excess glue.
This shade is a simple pink plastic on which I’ve stuck a darker braid round the bottom edge, giving it less of a jelly mould look.
I do like the way the ridging of the plastic puts a fan pattern on the ceiling.

  1. This room looks so cosy and ‘lived in.’ I love the slightly reduced, bedroom-y lighting and the glow from the centre of the room is very evocative of the first half of the 20th century.
Sorry I’ve not been visiting – there is something about me that my laptop seems to resent and I’ve not been able to load anything from WordPress for a while…. again!

      • Me too – can’t upload anything on DHP&P now, Blogger became an impossibility for me because the limit on data I could use was so scanty and now, things don’t want to load as quickly as they did a few weeks ago on Word Press.

        • All v v frustrating all round then. Can’t load on DhPP either and often can’t comment or generally do anything there. It’ll all come out in the wash I’m sure, it’s just being stymied that raises the frustration levels 😉
