Buying something in as a jump-off point

Standard

and also a little vandalism too

I keep mentioning that I buy items to help me think things through and this particular one is a prime example.

It’s a two shelf unit with Deco style cut-outs bought from Kitty Mac on eBay.  I knew that I could make it the beginnings of the downstairs hallway one way or another, but was unsure of the exact scale until I could actually see it.  It’s someone’s homemade item and possibly 1:8 scale?  Bit big as is but great as the basis for a hall stand.

Here we’ve got a previously 3″ and a bit item made into a 6″ and a bit item.
I’ve added a horizontal splat which lowers the now replaced shelf and popped the whole lot on three legs with a brolly drip tray underneath each side of the third (cardboard) shelf shape.
These photos are very dark – I’ve darkened the redness out a little but not this much.

The mirror’s a bit low but tall folk will just have to bob down a little.

More pictures eventually when it’s dry 😉

I do love jumping-off points for ideas and, assuming this hall stand stays in one piece, I feel better now about the downstairs hallway decor generally.  Ah, it’s the little things in life …
