Red Bed bedroom not yet sorted

Standard

But almost

I’m stuck.  There’s something adrift and I can’t quite put my finger on it so I’m going to step back for a while and ponder.

In the meantime here’s the latest pics and some notes on what I’ve done so far, some materials,  suppliers etc.

Breakdown of the Red Bed bedroom

Dimensions Depth/Width of room to bed back = 55 x 24 cms

Depth of removable section (no bed) = 39 cms

Height at lowest = 10.75 cms /at highest = 26 cms

Walls 3 mm card faced with 1 mm painted card each side and finished with various obeche/balsa timbers and matt varnish

I’ve bought card from both eBay and from 4D Model Shop depending on the current costs and what quantity I could afford.

I find that the layering of different “weaves” of card stop the wall warping and the adding of timber strip wood helps them all work together, thus far.  (Also I press the drying layers between spare timber sheeting (ordinary sizes) with weights on top just in case there’s going to be differential drying.)

Ceiling foam board (4D Model Shop) with white painted cardboard decor
Wall painting inkjet print on canvas paper
Plaster frieze Creative Paperclay (cheapest I’ve found and takes time to get here from States but no carriage) and metal stencil, the sort you get for embossing and card craft
Panelling and door
3 mm card coloured with pastels, blended with surgical spirit and matt varnished
Window shutters flooring pieces and paper hinges with florist’s wire catches
Fretwork shelf
(front left)
random eBay purchase
Candle box scrap bits of wood and card shaped and glued
Built in Bed bed head = carved wooden box lid with extra full-sized and mini mouldings – another random eBay search
canopy = balsa panels impressed with button designs using hammer (see The Bruising Qualities of Balsa for examples)
side walls = 3 mm card with 1 mm card painted and glued on
extra trims = obeche strip wood some with a little carving
Bed footstools Angela Downton (had them approx 3 yrs)
Cricket table, medieval stool, two other stools Ashwood Designs Miniature
Chair Tom Burchmore bought 2nd hand from eBay
Chest by wall painting basic chest/coffer redecorated with
Angela Downton fret panels (also had for years) and various colours added behind
Chest on right eBay buy – ‘small wooden box’ search as above
Cat and rat eBay purchases (Falcon Miniatures)
Swords/goblet/gold money Phoenix Models, sword/goblet from eBay
Shift on the chest
old pillow case fabric with standard sewing thread
Clogs carved from wide balsa strip wood + leather
Leather footstool leather stitched, glued, shaped and stained
Lights front left = LED light (Micro Miniatures)   reduced/yellowed with white paint on cells (can scrape off excess)
bed left = angled LED (Top LED Shop)
double table candelabra = various suppliers
green vase/flask and pewter goblet = eBay
Glues used Mod Podge and Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue – various suppliers and Bostik Glue Dots (various strengths)

See you again in the new year, meanwhile have a good time and stay safe.
